The race for the next Collin County District Attorney is gaining momentum. Yesterday, on the courthouse steps, former judge Greg Willis announced he is running for the soon to be vacant spot.

Greg resigned his former position as County Court Six Judge in order to run for District Attorney. Greg is a former Collin County prosecutor and also private practice attorney.

His announcement places him in the running with several other candidates who have also publicly announced their intentions to run.

K. Jefferson Bray (Jeff Bray), announced his intentions to run for District Attorney. Jeff is currently the senior legal adviser for Plano PD, and former Collin and Dallas County prosecutor. He has a website, www.brayforda.com detailing his plans for the office.

James "Jimmy" Angelino has also been public about his intentions to run for District Attorney. Jimmy is a former Dallas police officer, and former Denton prosecutor. He is currently in private practice.

J. Eric Reed has also announced he intends to run for District Attorney. Eric is an attorney in private practice, and former Dallas prosecutor, and former Special Asst. US Attorney.

Rafael de la Garza has also been public about his intentions to become Collin County's District Attorney. Rafael is a former Dallas prosecutor current private practice attorney. He has a website www.delagarzaforda.com detailing his plans for office.

I am self-identified Blue Dog Democrat who doesn't practice criminal law, but who knows Judge Greg Willis. Judge Willis is absolutely qualified to be our next DA; he has the intellectual acumen, the attitude, a track record in private practice of representing criminal defendants, and a track record on the bench administering justice. In my view of the man and his works, Judge Willis is the most qualified man for DA. I urge all of you to support his campaign by volunteering and donating money.

Since everyone of these candidates is a Republican, and no Democrat has decided to join this dance, anyone voting in the Democratic primary (being loyal party voters) is shut out of this process. So it is actually meaningless to a large segment of the Collin County population.
But I'm sure that's the definition of "fairness" in Collin County - one party rule.
I do NOT contribute to campaigns for which I cannot vote...I AM a Democrat, which REMAINS an endangered species in this county until someone actually understands that!

Chuck,

I think you're doing a disservice to the Democrats who have run for office in Collin County - including Victor Manuel, Jean Power, Dan Dodd, and even Bill.

I understand you're not a fan of Republicans. You don't like the process of Texas primaries. But, your dissatisfaction runs both ways. Right now (today) a Republican has the same chance of winning in Travis County as a Democrat does in Collin County. But tides are shifting, and it takes people who are willing to put themselves out there to change it. Maybe Victor didn't win, but he did highlight a lot of transportation issues. Maybe Jean didn't win, but she did open a discussion about indigent health care.

There are plenty of elected officials with whom I happen to disagree a great deal - who are also Republicans. But Greg Willis is a noble man and a fine candidate for DA. I remember on his campaign for judge, he spoke about the ability as a judge to limit the government's power. I don't think its fair to automatically hate anyone who runs under the Republican title.

There are plenty of reasons to be unhappy with Collin County politics - I can't argue with that. But please don't crash every silver lining along with the dark clouds :)

I'd post a response but this blog will not allow it for some unknown reason.
Which is sad.

Mr. Bloom, If you are so unhappy with our County/State, why not move? Ever heard "If you can't say anything nice, then don't say anything at all?" You just seem really unhappy about everyone and everything.

Kindness,

Your name belies your attitude.

This country was founded by people unhappy with the current regime, and they wrote a bill of rights designed to insure the right of dissent. Would you have told Thomas Paine to get happy or move?

If you don't like our Democracy, why don't you move to .... let's say Cuba.

Everybody's happy there! It's the law.
