The Baumbach Campaign for
Collin County Commissioner

January 29, 2006

It's time for LEADERSHIP...
for a CHANGE.

Vol. 2 No. 6

FROM BILL - Who will your County Commissioner represent?

Will he represent your interests? One way to tell is to see who is supporting him.

On January 17th, all candidates in Texas were required to file a campaign finance report. This filing required the candidates to list all 2005 contributions to their campaigns. Look at the numbers, they tell the tale.

My campaign received many small contributions from citizens all over Collin County, totaling under $3,000.

Jerry Hoagland listed over $15,000 in donations, with most of it (over $13,000) in the form of large donations from very rich developers, or from real estate PACs.

So WHO will your commissioner represent? I am running a grassroots campaign to represent the CITIZENS of precinct 2. Jerry seems to be in the pockets of the special interests...the big buck guys who can profit from having a friend at the courthouse.

Do you remember the Bear Creek development? In 2004, there was a lot of controversy over a big developer wanting to create a MUD out near Lavon. The citizens of Lavon were nervous — they really didn't have the infrastructure to handle the influx from a 575 acre high-density development. Jerry Hoagland helped put together an alternative plan that let the developers shave development time and the expense of putting together a MUD. The developers — Paul Cheng and the Hunt family were appreciative. And they showed it, donating $10,000 to Hoagland's campaign.

Citizens from Lavon donated zero dollars to Jerry Hoagland.

Think about it. Who will your next commissioner represent?

YARD SIGNS...

As you drive around Collin County, you are starting to see lots of billboards and yard signs for the local campaigns.

Bill needs to order and get his signs up now.

We have volunteers ready to start placing signs all over Precinct 2, all we need is the money to buy them. We need to raise an additional $3,000 to purchase billboards and yard signs. Can you help?

Editor:

About your editorial, “Public Access” -

I believe that democracy requires that the government operate in a transparent manner so that its citizens can see what their representatives are doing. The excesses and featherbedding by our County Commissioners take place only because they make it very hard for the taxpayers to see what the Court is up to.

Have you ever been to a Commissioners Court meeting? Probably not - our Commissioners meet at 9:30 on Tuesday mornings in an upstairs room hardly larger than a closet. There is no room for the taxpayers. It's obvious that the people are not invited.

Can you see Commissioner Hoagland holding a public hearing to request his $12,000 re-election bonus? Or to pay for his $8,000 in self-help classes, or $37,000 in travel expenses, or $9,100 car allowance? The list of abuses goes on and on.

The Commissioners Court MUST make itself available to the people. It MUST end the executive sessions, it MUST make its meeting times convenient. It MUST make its meeting place accessible. It MUST make its minutes and commissioners packets available on the web.

When this county’s government finally comes out of the closet, the citizens will really see what is happening with their hard earned tax dollars.
